Utah was considered the favorite for the Big 12 championship during the offseason but things haven’t turned out as anticipated. Following the narrow 13-7 loss to TCU, their third consecutive defeat in conference play, the Utes are facing more than just on-field struggles.
Cryptic social media posts from wide receiver Dorian Singer and running back Micah Bernard have stirred speculation about unrest within the program.
Singer posted a blurry image with the caption "wasted talent" on his Instagram story, suggesting frustration with the team's performance or his role.
Bernard's post, featuring a broken heart emoji followed by three periods, added further intrigue, hinting at possible dissatisfaction.
Kyle Whittingham says tough decisions will be made
In his postgame press conference on Saturday, Utes coach Kyle Whittingham dropped a hint at potential actions as the program continues to struggle.
“It's very obvious,” Whittingham said. “There's no mystery as to what our issue is thus far.
"It's been showing for three weeks in a row now, so we've got to look at everything really hard in the next 24 to 48 hours and make some tough decisions and see where we're at.”
With a 4-3 record so far this season, there's still a strong chance for the team to secure bowl eligibility.
Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig steps down
Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig has stepped down from his position less than 24 hours after Kyle Whittingham's press conference.
The recent offensive struggles have become a glaring issue, with just 36 points scored in the last three games.
“Assistant coach Andy Ludwig has made the decision to step down from his position with Utah Football,” Whittingham said. “Andy is the consummate professional and we want to thank him for his complete dedication to our program during his 10 total seasons with us.
“Coach Ludwig has been instrumental to our success here at Utah and personally, I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Andy as both a coach and a person. We wish him nothing but the best in all of his future endeavors.”
Ranked 95th nationally in scoring offense and averaging just 24.0 points per game, the Utes have decided to make a change to address their underperforming offense. These offensive woes have contributed to their struggle in the Big 12 play so far.
