The Utah Utes started the season brilliantly, 4-0, before losing against the Oregon State Beavers.
They have been hobbled by significant injuries all season, with the most glaring one being long-term absentee Cam Rising, who has yet to make an appearance since January.
Utah Utes injury report for Week 6
The Utah Utes have had the worst luck with injuries since the season began, but the two most notable players plagued by injury concerns are quarterback Cam Rising and running back Chris Curry.
Cam Rising injury update
Utah quarterback Cam Rising has been out since the January clash against Penn State, where he damaged his ACL, MCL, meniscus, and MPFL.
During the week, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the surgeon who performed the surgery on Cam Rising, gave an update on the quarterback's potential return.
“He’s gaining on it,” ElAttrache said. “I don’t know if it’s going to be a week or two weeks. Cam is close, but there’s a few things that we really need to still see before we can have him go back as safe as possible at this point. We’re not even going to be nine months from the surgery until the 16th of this month. Until he gets some of his power and mechanics refined, this last phase of the return to competition — or what I call return to performance — happens at different paces in different people.”
After the loss to Oregon State, Kyle Whittingham also provided an update on Rising's status.
“We’re just waiting patiently for when he gets the green light. Cam wants to play badly. It’s not like he’s not eager to get back, but it’s got to be a medical decision,” Whittingham said.
Chris Curry injury update
The Utah Utes running back Chris Curry has been plagued by injuries since his transfer from LSU in 2021. Last season, he got a season-ending injury against San Diego State.
Kyle Whittingham revealed that Curry had suffered another injury against Oregon State that might rule him out for the rest of this season as well.
“Unfortunately we took another hit at running back and Chris [Curry] is out," Whittingham said. "It’s really been tough getting guys back. It seems like when they come back they almost immediately get something else."
The two-time Pac-12 champions, the Utah Utes, would welcome the return of some of their injured stars to push for the three-peat.
