Texas defensive back Michael Taaffe can’t get Oklahoma's 2023 postgame antics off his head. After the Sooners' thrilling 34-30 victory over the Longhorns, linebacker Danny Stutsman revealed a T-shirt with a bold message that read "Oklahoma only fears God. Texas fears Oklahoma."

This statement playfully captured the rivalry's intensity and highlighted the Sooners' confidence following the win. However, it didn’t sit well with Taaffe who was on the losing side. Ahead of the rivalry encounter this weekend, he is using it as a source of motivation.

“It’s a new season,” Michael Taaffe said via Campbell Choate of TSTV Sports on Tuesday. “We’ve got a whole new team. I’m not too focused on what they did last year, what we did last year. But I do remember everything.”

Danny Stutsman’s several trolls at Texas

Danny Stutsman's trolling of Texas extended beyond the T-shirts. In the lead-up to the game, he appeared on the "Pat McAfee Show" sporting a "Horns Down" tattoo — a playful dig at the Longhorns.

After Oklahoma's hard-fought victory in 2023, Stutsman was asked whether the tattoo was real and if he still had it, adding to the banter surrounding the rivalry.

“I mean, I’ve kind of kept it up. You know, it might be real or it might be fake,” Stutsman said in October 2023. “But I think you guys can see it right there.”

Michael Taaffe’s memory in the Red River Rivalry

For Michael Taaffe, playing in what will be his third "Red River Rivalry" game holds special significance. He grew up just seven miles from Texas' home stadium. The importance of these matchups is not lost on him and he maintains his commitment to the team.

“My last three years have been special. This rivalry, this game is really special. It’s no different than any other game, but just being a Longhorn fan growing up, bleeding burnt orange.
“I always tell y’all that this team matters more to me than anything else, more than individual accolades. This team matters so much to me. I’m willing to die for this team. I do everything for this team, and so just getting to play games like this is truly an honor to me.”

Just as it was in 2023, Texas will once again enter the "Red River Rivalry" this year with an undefeated record. Oklahoma will look to secure an upset victory in Dallas on Saturday; however, Texas has arguably been the best team this season.
