Saturday's game between the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-6) and the No. 11 Miami Hurricanes (9-1) wasn't expected to be close.

The Hurricanes were coming off a 28–23 loss to Georgia Tech, their first of the season, and had an open week to recover. Conversely, Wake Forest had lost its two most recent games, including 31–24 to UNC last Saturday.

Despite Miami's recent loss, it was still a heavy favorite heading into the game. DraftKings had Miami as a massive -2800 favorite to win, and Wake Forest was a +1300 underdog before the game started. Those odds proved accurate as Miami won the game in dominant fashion, 42-14.

Wake Forest vs. Miami game summary

Miami entered the game as the betting favorite, and the Hurricanes scored less than seven minutes into the game to take the lead early.

However, Wake Forest answered back to tie the game. Those two touchdowns came on the first two drives of the game. On the next drive, Miami scored a field goal to end the first quarter.

Wake Forest made good progress on its first drive of the second quarter, but Hank Bachmeier threw an interception, which Mishael Powel returned for a touchdown. However, Wake Forest would immediately get it back, with Demond Claiborne returning the kickoff for a TD.

There was then some back-and-forth play before Miami scored a field goal with a few seconds left to take a 20-14 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was a stalemate for these teams as neither managed to get any offense going. However, the game unraveled for Wake Forest in the fourth quarter as Miami scored touchdowns on back-to-back drives to take a 35-14 lead.

Things continued to go poorly for Wake Forest as Miami scored again on its next drive to take a 42-14 lead with two minutes remaining. That was the final score as Miami got back in the win column after losing to Georgia Tech.
