The game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend is one of the biggest games of the season. It is going to be attended by former United States president and 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump.
As with the appearance of any high-ranking official in a public space, security is going to be tight. On Thursday, Alabama issued a press release detailing the arrangements for fans going to Bryant-Denny Stadium.
“Fans should also be prepared to remove all items from pockets and any pinned-on buttons or larger jewelry similar to when passing through airport security, before entering. It is recommended that any non-essentials be left at home or in vehicles. Shoes and belts can remain on during screening. If one should set off the walkthrough metal detector, a wand will be used to the side.”
Nothing is going to be left to chance with Trump's attendance.
The Republican presidential candidate has had two assassination attempts in the last few months. Anywhere he goes, his life could be at risk. The enhanced security will be there to protect him and all of the attendees of the game.
Additionally, fans have been advised to arrive at the stadium early, with the gates opening two and a half hours before kickoff.
Alabama coach Kalen Deboer talks about preparing his team for the game
During his weekly press conference, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer talked about how his team has been preparing for this game that will have more media coverage than usual.
“It’s going to be, everyone’s watching," De Boer said. "So it’d be great to have everyone who wants to come watch be here. For us, I told the guys this, with (College) "GameDay" and everything coming here as well, for the guys to try to take as much off their plate, other than maybe a few extra interviews towards the end of the week. The main thing is they get prepared to play the best football game that they’ve played this year.
"I always challenge them to play the best football game they’ve ever played in their career. That’s what matters when it comes down to what we can control. But yeah, it is kind of cool to have a lot of people who want to come be part of the atmosphere and add to the excitement and energy that the game will bring.”
Not only will Donald Trump be there, but the "College GameDay" crew will also broadcast from Tuscaloosa and all eyes will be on this game.
This could cause players to be distracted by media interviews and not fully focus on what they should be doing. However, DeBoer is confident that Alabama will play well and deliver an upset.
