USF and FAU played a crucial Week 10 game at the FAU stadium. The Bulls won 44-21, meaning the Owls remain winless in conference play this season.
At the end of the game, FAU coach Tom Herman shook hands with his USF counterpart, Alex Golesh and proceeded to go after him and seemed to engage in an argument even after they had disengaged from the customary post-game handshake.
CFB fans had a field day on social media about the mostly one-sided interaction:
"Apparently, Herman went for an onside kick up 40 last year, and Golesh was running the score up this year to return the favor. That resulted in this," another fan said.
"Plotting revenge over the course of a whole year is nasty work," one fan said.
Some fans called out Herman's actions and wondered why he'd act that way after the loss:
"Hey Tom, score more points than the other team," one fan said.
"He did it to himself idk why he mad," another fan said.
"Peak petty," a fan said.
USF recorded a blowout victory over FAU
The USF Bulls entered the game as slight favorites and they demonstrated their superiority over the Owls with a strong second-half surge. FAU led 14-7 at the halftime mark, but the second half felt like a completely different game.
The teams traded touchdowns early in the third quarter to make it 21-14 in favor of FAU, but those would be the last points the Owls recorded.
The Bulls then went on a 30-0 run, finishing the game with a final score of 44-21. This loss marks FAU's 10th loss in homecoming games, dropping their record in such contests to 13-10.
The Owls must regroup promptly as they face the East Carolina Pirates in Week 11. On the other hand, USF will need to be on their A game in their next game as they face the Navy Midshipmen in Week 11. Both teams will have a lot to analyze in the coming days, and they'll probably speak about Tom Herman wanting all the smoke after tonight's contest.
