No. 18-ranked Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is projected to go in the top five of the 2025 NFL draft. He could be the first quarterback off the board, but many analysts believe he is a flawed player who could struggle to adapt to the higher level of play in the NFL.

Jason Whitlock spoke about this on his podcast, "Fearless with Jason Whitlock." He compared Coach Prime's son Shedeur Sanders to quarterback Caleb Williams.

Williams was drafted first overall in the 2024 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears after a terrific college career that included a Heisman Trophy win in 2022 with USC.

However, since arriving in Chicago, he has struggled to transfer his success to the NFL. Whitlock spoke about how Williams holds onto the ball for too long and Sanders has the same problem. He reiterated his feelings by posting on X, writing this:

"Caleb Williams’ struggles are a warning sign to Shedeur Sanders. Williams was an incredible college player. He holds the ball too long. He thinks he can just scramble out of anything like he did at USC. Shedeur’s the same way, and he’s in for a rude awakening if he can’t learn how to throw the ball away."

Shedeur Sanders leads an unspectacular quarterback class in the 2025 NFL draft

Although Shedeur Sanders is projected to be the first quarterback off the board in the 2025 NFL draft, that is not the ringing endorsement it normally is. Typically, quarterbacks go first overall unless there is a true superstar available at another position.

This year, that player looks like it could be Shedeur Sanders' teammate, two-way star Travis Hunter.

However, Hunter's availability is not the only reason a quarterback is unlikely to go first overall. There are also many draft experts who believe that there is not a star quarterback available in this draft.

On the "Gojo and Golic" show, sports commentator Jason Fitz spoke about Sanders and other top quarterbacks in the 2025 draft.

"This year's quarterback class, as we've said for months, is not very good in the draft. Like, I've talked to a couple of guys that I think are smart with the draft and I asked them all the same question: Whoever your top quarterback is in this year's draft, where would they have ranked in last year's draft?"
"And everybody that I've talked to and asked that specific question to is giving me the same answer. Sixth, behind Bo Nix."

Although he had his numbers off slightly because Bo Nix was the seventh quarterback drafted in 2024, it is not a ringing endorsement for the quarterbacks in this year's draft.
