The Colorado Buffaloes, under coach Deion Sanders, are gearing up to play the Alamo Bowl against the BYU Cougars on Dec. 28. Ahead of flying out to Texas for the game, some of the Buffs held a river rally with Buffs fans to interact with fans.
Buffs safety Ben Finneseth stole the show with his hilarious introduction to the fans, which was posted on Coach Prime's Instagram page.
"What's up y'all? My name is Ben Finneseth, I am single and I play safety," Finneseth said.
Colorado's senior quality control analyst Warren Sapp had a four-word reaction in the comments to Finneseth's introduction.
"Ben is the man!!! #SkoBuffs," Sapp wrote.
Ben Finneseth was a childhood Colorado fan
During an interview with the "Daily Camera" on Wednesday, Finneseth revealed how he achieved his childhood dream of joining the Colorado Buffaloes.
“I asked my dad, I was like, ‘Can we just drive up to Folsom Field? I just want to see it. I’ve never seen it,’” Finneseth said. “We drove up, and I looked through the gate, and I was like, ‘Dad, I want to play here.’ And then a couple weeks later, I ended up getting the call. And since then, it’s been a dream lived out ever since.”
Finneseth was among just ten players who survived the Coach Prime purge that he undertook, encouraging players to jump into the transfer portal when he arrived in Boulder in December 2022.
Finneseth revealed the difference that he has witnessed in Boulder ever since Coach Prime took charge and the aspects of the program that had changed under his tutelage.
“It means the world,” said Finneseth. “Obviously, two years ago, we were 1-11, and then last year, we were 4-8, and now we’re 9-3 and could potentially have a double-digit win season. So it means a lot, especially being an in-state guy.”
“The way that we’ve come together has been super cool, and it’s been amazing to see the family that we’ve built and the brotherhood. So, yeah, it’s meant everything, the way that we’ve played for each other and played with each other,” he added.
Finneseth redshirted the 2021 season before becoming a member of the Colorado team that went 1-11 in 2022. Although he survived Sander's various purges, he had an injury-hit 2023 season, missing ten games.
Finneseth has closer ties to the Buffs than most, and he is living his childhood dream of playing for the Buffs with the chance to win the Alamo Bowl against the BYU Cougars after going 9-27 in his first three seasons in Boulder.
