Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss Rebels have had an inconsistent season despite boasting a 9-3 record. The Rebels blew out the Georgia Bulldogs 28-10 in Week 12 but also shockingly lost to the Florida Gators in Week 13 action.
On Monday, ahead of the college football playoff rankings, the $14 million Kiffin (as per Celebrity Net Worth) uploaded a cryptic post on his Instagram stories. He posted a graphic that said:
"Stop looking for happiness in the same place you lost it," the graphic read.
"Wasted four years of my life doing this. It was exhausting. Break free," Kiffin wrote in his story.
The Rebels coach didn't specify any details on what exactly he "wasted four years of his life" on.
Lane Kiffin lobbies for college football playoff inclusion
After Lane Kiffin presided over a shock 24-17 road loss to the Florida Gators, the Ole Miss Rebels were knocked out of contention for the Southeastern Conference championship game. The loss also damaged the Rebels' college football playoff chances.
In other games, the Miami Hurricanes were defeated by the Syracuse Orange in Week 14, while the South Carolina Gamecocks triumphed over the No. 12 Clemson Tigers.
Ahead of the latest college football playoff rankings announcement, Lane Kiffin lobbied for his team to be included over the Gamecocks who won six games in a row to end the regular season.
"First off, I have great respect for South Carolina," Kiffin said. "I think they're a really good team. Well coached, really good players. But when you just said South Carolina jumping us — why do we even play games? If South Carolina were to jump us, and we play in the same conference with a very similar schedule, but the same record. Normally you would say 'what would happen if they played each other?' Well, we did."
The embattled Kiffin pointed out the Rebels' 27-3 blowout win against the Gamecocks as the game that should decide which 9-3 team should make it into the expanded college football playoff.
"We went to their place (Gamecocks) and ran them out of their place," Kiffin said. "I mean it was a 24-point SEC road win and we're just handing the ball off in the fourth quarter to get out of there.
"That should not even be a — if the committee is even thinking about that, then what do you play the games for? Well, we did at their place and it wasn't even close," Kiffin reiterated Sunday afternoon. "We could still be playing the game and they still might've not scored a touchdown."
Southeastern Conference teams including the Alabama Crimson Tide, the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Ole Miss Rebels are all tied at 9-3. Lane Kiffin will hope that his team's resume including a dominant win against the Georgia Bulldogs will count in his favor in front of the CFP committee.
