Javeon Campbell is, according to 247sports.com, a four-star prospect from the state of Kentucky. The edge rusher has received offers from many top football programs, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, who reportedly offers Campbell a scholarship.
On Tuesday, Campbell announced his decision as to where he would be committed to in 2025. In a ceremony, he announced that
"I want to commit to the University of Kentucky"
Javeon Campbell has only played one season of high school football and has already become one of the top-ranked players in the state of Kentucky.
Originally a basketball player at Western Hills High School, Campbell was convinced by the coaches at the school to give football a try in his junior year.
Campbell's decision to do this paid off, as he had an impressive season for a rookie. He recorded 14.5 sacks and was on the radar of many of the large college football programs.
In the end, he chose to commit to the Kentucky Wildcats. Speaking of his decision to join the Wildcats' program, Campbell said
" All the coaches at Kentucky made it feel like home there and the way they are so honest and just great overall people."
"The Kentucky fan base is great and just an amazing community and the program is building something great and I want to be a part of it."
Which other defenders have joined Javeon Campbell in committing to the Kentucky Wildcats?
In committing to the Kentucky Wildcats, Javeon Campbell becomes the 15th player to announce their intention to join the program.
Joining him on the defensive line will be fellow four-star prospect Cedric Works. Works is from Ohio, and like Campbell, has also played basketball. On the football field, Works has recorded 82 tackles and 6.5 sacks in his junior year.
Additionally, the Wildcats have gained the services of homegrown safety Martels Carter Jr. who shows talent on both sides of the ball. In his previous high school, he played quarterback, and at his current school, he has become a key wide receiver and member of the return team alongside his safety position. Carter Jr. was able to take his team to an undefeated regular season and should be able to further develop his skills in his senior year.
This will allow him to make himself a two-way player, like the Colorado Buffaloes Travis Hunter, which will only increase his chances of making the Wildcats team early in his college football career.
