WATCH: $70M worth Nick Saban once denied Alabama DB Malachi Moore dessert after spring game loss

Nick Saban once denied Alabama DB Malachi Moore dessert cake after a loss during the spring game.
Legendary ex-Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban

Alabama Crimson Tide strong safety Malachi Moore was voted permanent team captain by his peers in Nick Saban's final season with the Tide.

Saban was known for his unique ways of man management. After the 2022 spring game loss, he did not let Moore take a single bite of dessert.

A video featuring Moore recently resurfaced on X. Even Ole Miss Rebels coach Lane Kiffin could not hold back and reacted to it.

The video depicts Saban sitting during a meal after the A-Day game with defensive back Malachi Moore and tight end Cameron Latu. Saban saw dessert being offered to Moore by linebacker Dallas Turner. Saban had a few words for Moore (unclear in the video) and made Turner take the plate back.

Turner played on the winning team during Alabama's A-Day Spring Game, where the White squad won 25-7 at Bryant-Denny Stadium with 31,077 fans in attendance.

Rebels coach Kiffin shared the video on social media and wrote:

"Values and principles of the organization guy!!" with a goat emoji.

During his 17-season tenure at Alabama, former coach Saban, whose estimated net worth is $70 million (per Clutch Points), upheld a tradition where the winning team savored a steak dinner complete with baked potatoes, salad, and dessert. In contrast, the losing team settled for a simpler offering consisting of frank and beans, accompanied by white bread.

Malachi Moore continues to be an important player for Alabama

Despite the recent change in Bama's coaching staff, Malachi Moore chose to remain loyal and honor his commitment to the program. He had the option to enter the transfer portal during the 30-day window following the transition, but chose not to do so.

Moore spoke about the difficult conversation he had with coach Saban:

"It definitely was a tough conversation," Moore said. "Me and him (Saban) had a great relationship since the time I’ve been here. And he spent most of the time with the DBs, so I’m always with him making jokes and things of that nature.”

However, Moore's love for the university, the people he had worked with, and his teammates made him want to stay.

Meanwhile, his position also changed with the arrival of the new coaching staff. He will now transition to the role of a true safety under the guidance of new defensive coordinator, Kane Wommack.

Initially, the transition was strange for Moore as he had become accustomed to playing near the line of scrimmage:

“It was a little weird at first, just from being that close to the line of scrimmage to now being so far back from the line of scrimmage,” Moore said.

However, as spring practice progressed, Moore said he became more comfortable with his new role:

“But as spring practice kept going on, I got more comfortable with it. I’m very comfortable with it now.”

The 22-year-old will be looking forward to another successful season with the team before setting his sights on the NFL.
