Shelomi Sanders is set to commence her playing career at Alabama A&M in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season. The guard transferred to the Bulldogs this offseason after spending a season at Colorado and will be hoping to thrive in the new environment.
Deion Sanders’ last-child spent the weekend in Boulder, Colorado, supporting her father and her brothers in the Buffaloes game against Baylor. However, she's returned to Normal, Alabama, to start preparation for the upcoming women's basketball season with the Bulldogs.
In a fun locker room video shared on her Instagram story, Shelomi Sanders was seen in a choreographed dance with her new teammate following a workout session. The team is back together in preparation for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to kick off in November.
An unlikely destination for Shelomi Sanders
Having Shelomi Sanders transfer away from Colorado wasn't what many anticipated. Deion Sanders has tried to keep his family together in the same university since he began his coaching career. His kids have been with him in the same school right from his days at Jackson State.
However, Shelomi made a bold move to leave Colorado in April and enter the transfer portal. This move did not go well with Coach Prime who wanted her to remain in Boulder. Nonetheless, the guard made her decision after getting some input from her mother, Pilar Sanders.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank my creator for allowing me to have this platform with amazing experiences," Shelomi said. “I want to thank my coaches and the university for accepting me to be a part of the family, it’s been a blessing accomplishing as much as we did.”
“I would like to thank my family and my support system for always uplifting and pouring into me on and off the court as a student-athlete. My time at Colorado has been a treat with amazing experiences along the way. With intentional consideration and prayer, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”
The reason behind Shelomi Sanders' decision?
Shelomi Sanders saw her transfer out of Colorado as a necessary step. In a live interview in August, she made it known that last year in Boulder was especially difficult for her, and she sought a new, more comfortable environment to continue her basketball journey.
“I don’t want to say anything too bad,” Shelomi said. “It just wasn’t good energy. It wasn’t good vibes. There wasn’t enough being poured into me as a player and young lady. If I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would’ve quit.”
In her time at both Jackson State and Colorado, Shelomi didn’t see much game time. However, she will be hoping to get a starting shirt at Alabama A&M in the upcoming season.
