Colorado's Shilo and Shedeur Sanders played their final games in college football during the No. 23 Buffaloes 36-14 blowout loss to the No. 17 BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday. The pair are expected to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft and part ways with their famous father, Deion Sanders, after being coached by him at both Jackson State and Colorado.
Before the game, the duo's ever-supportive mother, Pilar Sanders, posted a supportive message for her sons in an Instagram reel. She captioned the reel:
"Game Time! #AlamoBowl. Look at Ms @iam_queenvee smh Yeahhhhhh! #21. #2 Go Shilo! Go Shedeur! #skobuffs," Pilar Sanders wrote.
Shilo & Shedeur Sanders' departure overwhelms Coach Prime
During his weekly news conference, Colorado coach Deion Sanders revealed how emotional he was going to be during the Alamo Bowl because of the significance of the game being the last one with his sons, Shilo and Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter with whom he shares a close relationship.
“It’s gonna be something to behold,” Deion Sanders said. “I don’t know how I’m gonna handle it. I know Travis is gonna trigger me. I know it because he always does, and he’s gonna bring tears out of my eyes. But I don’t look forward to it. But I do, because that means they’re going to another level, another chapter of life. And they’re gonna soar."
The charismatic Buffs coach walked Shilo and Shedeur Sanders out at the Alamodome for the last time before the game against the BYU Cougars and was visibly emotional during a pre-game interview on ESPN.
“I’m seeing when they first put on uniforms,” Sanders said. “You know, when they first started. When I first started coaching them. The good, the bad, the indifference. The ups and downs. Just the journey, it has been a heck of a journey. And I’m thankful and appreciative. I thank God for it. I gotta get it together. I gotta coach, I gotta get it together.
"The journey. The journey has been tremendous. I’m sorry, this is tough. That walk won’t happen again. We’ve been doing this for a long time, from youth leagues to now. It’s tough knowing this chapter is closing. A lot of things transpire that you guys don’t know about, but I absolutely love these guys."
The NFL-bound Shedeur Sanders and his brother Shilo will also have to adapt to life in the NFL without Coach Prime at the helm of the team and Saturday's Alamo Bowl game seemed like a poignant parting of ways between the trio.
