Hunter, a two-way sensation for Colorado, became the first defensive player to win the prestigious award since Michigan legend Charles Woodson in 1997.
Splitting his time as a wide receiver and cornerback, Hunter was one of the four finalists for the trophy after a phenomenal season under Coach Deion Sanders.
During his heartfelt acceptance speech, Hunter thanked the people who shaped his journey, singling out his coach and his teammate Shedeur Sanders.
"I want to thank Coach Prime, Shedeur, you guys changed my life forever. One simple phone call, Shedeur and look where I'm at! It's crazy, bro. Crazy!" he said.
He ended with a triumphant,
“Sko Buffs, baby!”
The moment became even more special as Sanders and Hunter embraced on stage, a fitting celebration for a season that has captivated fans across the nation.
