Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders began his storied career as a prospect at Florida State where he was a three-sport athlete, baseball, football and track, excelling at all of them.

Coach Prime has never been afraid to boast of his quarterback son's achievements and in a recently unearthed clip, he hyped up a young Shedeur Sanders in a barbershop when he got an offer from the Florida State Seminoles (FSU).

"You about to be your own man," Sanders said.
"I just won state right? But I'm still working, you feel me? We ran bleaches today, lifted some weights, threw. I deserve it man. All work is easy work baby," Shedeur said.
"Shedeur has an offer from FSU," Sanders said.

Deion Sanders has a complicated relationship with FSU

Deion Sanders became renowned during his time as a Seminole. He finished his football career with 14 interceptions, returned for 287 yards resulting in three touchdowns and 126 punt returns for 1,429 yards resulting in three touchdowns.

He was drafted by the New York Yankees in round 30 of the 1988 MLB Draft and No. 5 overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1989 NFL Draft from FSU.

Deion Sanders had his No. 2 Florida State jersey retired in 1985 for his accomplishments during his time there. Despite the shared history, the Colorado coach has had a controversial relationship with his alma mater.

Last year during a weekly press conference ahead of Colorado's season opener against TCU, Sanders took exception to a reporter calling him a Seminole. He clarified that he did not graduate from FSU, therefore, he did not consider himself a Seminole. Instead, he graduated from HBCU Talladega College in 2020.

“I graduated from an HBCU,” Sanders said. “I thought it was from where you graduated from, isn’t it? Why do you keep calling me that if it wasn’t where I graduated from? I’m an HBCU grad.”

When the unbeaten Florida State Seminoles were passed over for a spot in the 2023 college football playoff last year, Sanders appearing on "Good Morning America" pointed out that Alabama had to get in over FSU due to their famous coach Nick Saban's reputation.

"That would’ve been tough for me as a coach. Coach Norvell did a great job of handling it and speaking his voice. But you got to understand big-market football. You're not going to have a college football playoff without Nick Saban, the godfather, and the Alabama team. It's tough." Sanders said.

Deion Sanders has had another brush with FSU before when he managed to convince two-way star Travis Hunter to flip his commitment from the Seminoles to join him at Jackson State.
