Indianapolis Colts teammates DeForest Buckner and Tyquan Lewis engaged in a friendly wager over their former college football teams. Buckner, an Oregon alum, and Lewis, who played for Ohio State, added a bit of playful rivalry to their locker room as they backed their alma maters.

Oregon defeated Ohio State 32-31 in Week 7 in Eugene, so Buckner won the wager. On Wednesday, he wrapped up his press conference session, the first since returning from injury, with a spirited gesture, proudly welcoming the Oregon Duck mascot to the podium.

"See, this specific Duck is a bad Duck," Bucker told gathered media members. "You see, he's a lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes fan. With a lot of training and a lot of beating into him, he became Oregon's biggest supporter. Let's go, Ducks! Ain't that right, Ty Lew?"

Buckner then removed the Duck mascot's head, revealing it was Tyquan Lewis in the gear. Lewis had to appear in the costume after losing the wager, creating a fun ending to Buckner’s session with the press on Wednesday.

DeForest Buckner and Tyquan Lewis’ history in college football

DeForest Buckner and Tyquan Lewis had a noteworthy history in college football playing for Oregon and Ohio State, respectively. The two players squared off against each other in the 2015 College Football Playoff national championship game.

Lewis' Ohio State claimed a crucial 42-20 victory over Buckner's Oregon to claim the inaugural edition of CFP, which replaced the Bowl Championship Series. Nearly a decade later, their alma maters met again, reigniting the rivalry between the schools and the players.

This time, it was Buckner’s alma mater that secured the victory. The Buckeyes and the Ducks are conference rivals following Oregon’s transition to the Big Ten this season. This will see both programs compete against one another more often in the next couple of years.

Buckner played at Oregon from 2012 to 2015 and was selected in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2016 NFL draft. Tyquan Lewis, on the other hand, played at Ohio State from 2013 to 2017 and was a second-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2018 draft.
