Following a slight improvement that occurred last season, Jay Norvell is hoping to secure a winning season at Colorado State in 2024, which will be his third season with the program. While he stays committed to rebuilding the Rams, tampering is becoming an obstacle with the advent of NIL into college football.

During his session on Mountain West Media Days, he claimed Kansas State offered $600,000 to lure away quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi.

“Brayden had the same kind of offers [as Tory Horton]. If you have enough evidence, you can prove it but smoking gun, smoking gun. He said guys from Kansas State called him and offered him $600,000 if he got into the portal because they lost their quarterback,” Jay Norvell said.

The Wildcats saw its quarterback Will Howard transfer to Ohio State after the 2023 college football season, and Fowler-Nicolosi was targetted as a potential replacement according to Norvell.

Jay Norvell claims he is not accusing Kansas State of anything

After noting that there was not enough evidence to prove tampering, Jay Norvell made it known that he was not accusing Kansas State of any wrongdoing. He is only revealing what he was told by his players at a time when such practice is becoming rampant in college football.

“I'm not accusing Kansas State of anything,” Norvell said (per Field Level Media). “I'm just telling you what the kid told me. They don't want their name thrown in it. I think they should probably get a handle on their people but there's a lot of that going on in college football and that's just the way things are right now.”

The advent of NIL has facilitated the increase in tampering in college football and the smaller programs are struggling to keep up with the competition.

Jay Norvell earlier claimed many of his players received transfer offers.

In December, Jay Norvell told the Coloradoan that 12 of their top players had received offers from different teams to transfer, a situation he described as frustrating.

“Our top 12 players on our team have all had offers to go other places,” Norvell said. “It’s really frustrating for me as a guy that’s been in this business for over 30 years to really see the misinformation that kids are getting and really the poor decision-making that’s coming of it.”

Fortunately, Norvell has been able to secure the loyalty of many of CSU's players, who will be with the team in the upcoming season. The Rams look to improve their 5-7 finish from the previous season in 2024.
