Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and his team are preparing for their Week 9 clash with the Cincinnati Bearcats. However, despite the upcoming Big 12 showdown, Cocah Prime took time to prioritize DL Nikhil Webb Walker, who has been diagnosed with Lymphoma.
In a video by "Well Off Media," Webb Walker shared details about his situation with fellow teammates. Deion Sanders came forward to talk about how the entire program has his back and will always support him. He also corrected Nikhil Webb Walker's mindset when he said that he did not reveal his Lymphoma diagnosis since he did not want to be a "distraction":
"First of all, you're never a distraction," Coach Prime said. "You're a blessing and you allow us to understand what life really is. What you're dealing with is real. And the way you've dealt with it has been just admirable. We love you. We appreciate you. We're here for you."
Nikhil Webb Walker began his collegiate career with New Mexico State in 2022. After two seasons, he decided to transfer to Colorado this offseason as an undergraduate transfer. So far, Webb Walker has made three appearances for the Colorado Buffaloes.
During the interaction with his teammates, Webb Walker opened up about how he found out that he would need to undergo chemotherapy to battle his Lymphoma.
"So, I just one morning woke up with a bump on my chest....I thought it was going to go away, I waited a week or two," Webb Walker said. "I had a biopsy, surgery; they cut my bump open, put me to sleep. The doc was like,'You've got Lymphoma. You're going to need to do a round of chemo just to get rid of it, but it's very treatable."
Nikhil Webb Walker wants Deion Sanders and his team to continue having a successful Big 12 reunion campaign
After sharing the ordeal of his battle with Lymphoma, Nikhil Webb Walker urged Deion Sanders and the Buffs to continue making a statement on the gridiron. He wants the team to go on to become potential conference and national champions.
Webb Walker also thanked his teammates for their support and for hearing out his situation as it made him feel a lot better.
"I've tried to keep it under wraps because I don't want to be a distraction to the team. I want to see you all boys do what you all do, and just keep winning-conference championship, bowl game, national championship. That's why I've kept it under wraps.
"Just being here, just like, helped me with the whole process and really jus deal with it. I say thank you all boys because you all made it easier on me even though it's been tough."
Deion Sanders and the Buffs will play Cincinnati at home on Saturday. While Nikhil Webb Walker won't suit up for the game, he will be on the sidelines cheering them on in their pursuit of success.
