Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders relived his MLB days when he attended the MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game in Arlington. The event brought together musicians, athletes, and major media personalities for a fun game at Globe Life Field.
28 celebrities were split into the National League and American League teams with the NL coached by Coach Prime. Sanders was seen practicing catch and having fun with one of the players on the field. He wore his signature cowboy hat and sunglasses to the game.
His coaching helped the NL squad win 12-10 after five innings. The NL team was led by Bobby Bones, who won the MVP award for pitching all five innings. Former NFL star Terrell Owens had the longest hit of the night with a home run that went off about 330 feet from the home plate.
Deion Sanders showed that he is not only impactful on a football field but also in a ballpark. Sanders had a 12-year stint in MLB from 1989 to 2001 where he most famously represented the New York Yankees at the start of his career.
ESPN analyst does not trust Deion Sanders' coaching prowess
Even though Coach Prime is admired by his fans, there has always been a lot of talk about his capabilities. ESPN's Paul Finebaum is the latest analyst to raise questions about Sanders' coaching abilities.
Finebaum provided his perspective on the true standing of the Colorado Buffaloes in the realm of college football. The analyst believes that if it had not been for Sanders' superstar status, the team would not be gaining the kind of attention it has.
“Deion Sanders is the best salesman I’ve ever seen. I personally love the guy for what he stands for. But the program looking out has a ridiculously inflated view of itself,” Finebaum stated.
Finebaum also criticized Shedeur Sanders' "Super Bowl" claims.
“Shedeur, you are not. You are an easy win nowadays. You got off to a phenomenal start last year beating a couple of mediocre teams that had big names. And quite frankly you haven’t done anything since other than crash and burn.”
Media and fans had closely witnessed the Buffs' 4-8 record last year. The high expectations were not fulfilled and thus, criticism was thrown the team's way. If they want to get out of the woes of the 4-8 ghost, Deion Sanders and the team will have to pull up their socks.
