Former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban spent 17 glorious seasons with the program. Apart from leading them to six national championships on the gridiron, he has also made several memories and moments that he can reminisce about as he continues his life as a retired head coach.

One particular memory that Nick Saban and a few of his former players will not forget, took place back in 2018. He had taken his players for a relaxing boat ride in Tuscaloosa as a part of his team bonding activity. Unfortunately, the boat stopped working midway, leaving them stranded in the middle of the lake.

Nick Saban was accompanied by former Alabama stars Tua Tagovailoa, Terrell Owens, and Shyheim Carter during the incident. Tagovailoa did not waste a moment to take out his phone and record the hilarious incident, which later went on to become a viral sensation on social media.

Nick Saban later shared the details surrounding the hilarious incident with ESPN's Chris Lowe. He stated that while the initial assumption was that the boat had run out of gas, it was not the problem. A mechanic later came over and fixed the problem for them.

"Brand spanking new, and it's the first time I've been out in it. So when it stalled, I'm thinking, 'Oh my gosh. I bought a new boat, and they didn't put gas in it.' I didn't even think about it. You just assume that it's got gas in it when you get a new car or a new boat. My heart sunk for a minute because I had all those kids out there," Saban said.
"We didn't run out of gas. But when the fuel pump runs out, that's exactly what it feels like. I've got all these kids on the boat and I say, 'We must have run out of gas,' and then look at the gas gauge and it's full. So I call for a mechanic, who brings another boat, and he resets the thing or whatever. I told him, 'you drive that boat. I'm driving your boat.'"

Nick Saban is enjoying his post-retirement life

Nick Saban spent 50 years coaching the game of college football. So retiring after decades in the business is like a breath of fresh air for him. Back in May, Saban opened up about his post-retirement life, stating that now he has the time to enjoy the little things without having to rush them.

"No, it has. You know I spent my whole life so busy. I didn't have any opportunity to enjoy anything else. So this gives me an opportunity to do some things I have never been able to do before. Whether it's in business, whether it's ESPN work, whether it's speaking, trying to influence people in a positive way," he said.

Saban added:

"Spending a little more time with Miss Terry and family. And this happens when you're not feeling like you're in a hurry all the time, which is kinda refreshing."

The torch has now been passed on to Kalen DeBoer in Alabama. While building a legacy like Nick Saban's is a difficult task, DeBoer is arguably the best fit to continue leading the program down the path of success.
