What is Auburn’s rolling Toomer’s Corner tradition?

Rolling Toomer’s Corner is one of the most iconic traditions in college football, embodying the spirit and pride of Auburn University. This ritual is deeply woven into the fabric of the university’s culture, serving as a cherished symbol of celebration and unity for the Auburn community.

After victories, particularly in football, Auburn fans and students converge at the intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue to participate in the beloved tradition.

They celebrate by throwing streams of toilet paper over the iconic Auburn Oaks trees, located just a few blocks from Jordan-Hare Stadium, creating a sea of white that symbolizes triumph and unity.

The tradition of rolling dates back to the 1960s, originating from Toomer’s Drugstore, which housed the only telegraph in Auburn at the time. It began as a creative way to signal a victory to the university community in an era when communication wasn’t as simple as it is today.

Auburn’s bowl qualification hopes

The win against Texas A&M on Saturday has brought Auburn’s bowl qualification hope back to life. After struggling for most of the season, the Tigers were not projected to appear in a bowl game in many quarters. However, there's a possibility of that now.

Nonetheless, Hugh Freeze's team faces a tough task in securing bowl game eligibility. The Tigers will have to defeat Alabama in the Iron Bowl in Week 14 to qualify for a bowl game.

The Crimson Tide fell to Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday night. They will need a win against the Tigers to keep their very slim College Football Playoff hopes alive. This increases the stakes of the in-state rivalry game ahead of Week 14.
