After Ole Miss' 27-3 win over South Carolina in Week 6 to bounce back from the letdown against Kentucky, Lane Kiffin made an unexpected turn during his postgame press conference. When a reporter asked him about the health of his team, Kiffin's attention seemed elsewhere.
Instead of addressing the question, Kiffin asked about another game he had been keeping an eye on, leading to a largely unexpected scene in the session. Vanderbilt was staging one of the greatest upsets in history against Alabama and this was highly catching his attention.
“How many timeouts does Alabama have?” Kiffin asked the room with his eyes fixed on the TV instead of answering the question he was asked. “Sorry, I mean this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing going on. Better watch, you’re probably not ever going to see this again.”
Lane Kiffin described a tough week for Ole Miss
Ole Miss suffered a disappointing loss to Kentucky in Week 5, marking the Rebels’ first loss of the season after what has been a brilliant start.
For Lane Kiffin and his team, the entire focus was on bouncing back from the major blow and placing their season right on track again.
“I thought that this was a really hard week, switching back to football,” Kiffin said. “This was a really hard week of that loss. I thought we got probably the worst feeling after a loss in the most amount of days since you’ve been here in a game.
“Our fans are going to be mad because we lost. We just handed that thing away in so many ways. It was so not what we thought they were going to play like.”
The Rebels got a deserved win in Columbia on Saturday, giving a new outlook to their season. Kiffin will hope his team can keep the momentum in the team’s upcoming games.
Lane Kiffin happy with the win over South Carolina
The win over South Carolina was a crucial one for Ole Miss following the loss to Kentucky in the prior week. Lane Kiffin reacted to his team's performance in his postgame press conference:
“I’m really pleased with our players that they came back because, I’ve said before, you can win a one-score game. The ball goes in or out on a kick or something."
Ole Miss travels to Baton Rouge this weekend to play LSU in an highly anticipated SEC game. The Rebels undoubtedly have a huge challenge to face against the Tigers.
Getting a win is highly important for Kiffin’s team in a bid to achieve their playoff goal for the season.
