The Texas Longhorns (6-0) stamped their dominance in the Red River Rivalry, cruising to a commanding 34-3 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners (4-2) in their first meeting as SEC opponents. After the game, Texas linebackers Barryn Sorrell and Anthony Hill Jr. made a statement by planting the Longhorns' flag through an Oklahoma jersey at midfield, capturing the moment of celebration on the Cotton Bowl turf.
Despite a slow start, which included an early interception and a couple of three-and-outs, the Longhorns found their groove in the second quarter. Quarterback Quinn Ewers led a 10-play, 75-yard drive, connecting with Gunnar Helm for a 7-yard touchdown that gave the Longhorns their first lead at 7-3 with 11:20 left in the second quarter.
From there, it was all Longhorns, as they piled up 34 unanswered points and racked up 406 yards of offense.
The real stars, however, were on defense. The Longhorns held the Sooners to just 236 total yards and shut down Oklahoma's rushing attack, allowing only 89 yards on 39 carries (a mere 2.3 yards per attempt). Texas' defense also shined on third downs, limiting Oklahoma to just 4 conversions on 15 attempts.
The Longhorns sealed their 120th Red River Rivalry win with a statement performance.
Texas LB tries to plant Longhorns flag at Michigan Stadium after big Week 2 win over Wolverines
It seems flag-planting is becoming Texas' thing this season. In a moment of postgame excitement, Longhorns linebacker David Gbenda tried to make a statement at Michigan Stadium after the Longhorns’ 31-12 victory in Week 2.
With the fans still in the stands, Gbenda grabbed a Longhorns flag and headed to midfield, aiming to plant it right on Michigan's iconic block "M." But things didn’t go as planned—the flag barely touched the turf before falling over.
The win snapped Michigan's run of 29 straight Big Ten wins and 23 straight home wins. It was also their first loss since their defeat to TCU in the 2022-23 College Football Playoff.
After their Red River Shootout win against Oklahoma, the Longhorns are looking stronger than ever. If they keep this momentum, an SEC Championship appearance looks likely. Meanwhile, Oklahoma, sitting at 4-2, clearly has some things to work on.
