The Alabama Crimson Tide romped home in impressive fashion to beat the Wisconsin Badgers 42-10 in coach Kalen DeBoer's first road game of his Bama tenure on Saturday. The win was guaranteed by sensational performances by wide receiver Ryan Williams and quarterback Jalen Milroe.
In attendance was former Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram II, who showed his pleasure with a creative jig at the end of the game.
Ingram won the Heisman Trophy in 2009 while leading Alabama to the BCS national championship under Nick Saban.
Alabama's win was more efficient and encouraging than last week's 42-16 win against the South Florida Bulls, which took a fourth-quarter effort to pull off. In his postgame news conference, DeBoer said:
“There was a businesslike approach in the locker room. They had energy right from the start. We’re a work in progress. But we were much more in sync today.”
Alabama led by Jalen Milroe and Ryan Williams
Jalen Milroe grew into his role as the Alabama Crimson Tide QB1 last season until he was one of the best players in the country towards the end of the season, finishing No. 6 in Heisman Trophy voting.
He started this year much like the last and against the Wisconsin Badgers, he showed his dual-threat abilities that drew coach Kalen DeBoer's praise in the offseason.
Milroe went 12-of-17 for 196 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns.
Milroe and Ryan Williams have already formed an almost telepathic connection. Against Wisconsin, the wide receiver was the quarterback's most targeted player.
Williams was in sensational form as he tallied 78 yards on four catches and a touchdown.
In the postgame news conference, DeBoer discussed the connection between Milroe and Williams, highlighting the touchdown pass that sparked the Crimson Tide's comeback.
“Getting one early and getting that momentum, it becomes contagious. I thought it was right on the money. I loved what Jalen did with those balls down the field,” DeBoer said.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will be more sorely tested in the coming weeks than they were in Madison. They have a bye week before the top-level clash against the No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Sept. 28 at the Bryant-Denny Stadium.
