Nebraska's iconic balloon release tradition made a triumphant return during the Huskers' 28-10 victory over Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes. The atmosphere at Memorial Stadium was electric as fans celebrated the team's first points by releasing red balloons, a beloved tradition that had been paused since 2022.
The event wasn't just about the game. Huskers fans had eagerly anticipated the matchup with Colorado, and the weekend's festivities lived up to the hype.
Yahoo Sports posted the video on Instagram and captioned it:
“Nebraska’s entire stadium releases balloons on the Huskers’ first points.”
According to Lincoln Journal Star columnist Amie Just, Nebraska Athletics distributed the balloons for free. While the tradition has faced criticism from environmentalists in the past, athletic director Troy Dannen mentioned that balloon releases will be brought back for special occasions in the future.
The night was a nod to the Huskers' storied past and a look forward to the excitement of the season.
