Nick Saban and a few members of the College GameDay crew had a fun time with the Oklahoma softball team on Friday. The crew is in Norman to host the Week edition of the pregame show, which will cover Oklahoma football's first game in the Southeastern Conference.

While they anticipate the weekend, Saban alongside Pat McAfee and Jess Sims participated in batting practice at Oklahoma's softball stadium, Love's Field, on Friday afternoon. They all took swings in front of the Sooners softball team, adding a fun twist to their pre-game activities.

McAfee had the best performance among the three. He managed to hit at least one home run, launching the ball over the batter's eye in center field. Both Jess Sims and Nick Saban also connected well with the ball during the session, showcasing some solid swings.

Nick Saban discusses Josh Heupel’s return to Oklahoma

Josh Heupel is a folk hero at Oklahoma, having led the Sooners to the national championship as a quarterback in 2000. However, his return to the program as a co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach didn't turn out well as he ended up being fired by the program.

Heupel leads a red-hot Tennessee team to Norman on Saturday as Oklahoma gets its baptism into the SEC. Nick Saban discussed what the emotion would look like for the coach on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday.

“I’m sure that I’ve been in situations where I’ve been fired before and went back and played in those situations. Or left and had to go back in those situations,” Saban said. “I think to you, maybe personally, there’s something there.”
“But the number one thing you want to do for your team is not let that impact your team. You want your team to stay focused on what they need to do to play well in the game and not worry about those kinds of external factors in terms of their emotions.”

Nick Saban on the task ahead for Oklahoma's defense

Led by quarterback Nico Iamaleava, Tennessee boasts one of the most explosive offenses this season. The Volunteers have blown out all its opponents so far and will hope to keep that up against Oklahoma. Nick Saban discusses the task ahead for the Sooners defense.

“I think Oklahoma has a really good defense. I think Brent Venables has a very good defensive scheme,” Nick Saban said on Friday on the edition of “The Pat McAfee Show” held in Norman.
“But I also think that the style of play that Tennessee has, it takes a little different type of approach, because you’re not going to be able to play your normal pace of play, because they’re going to go fast. You’re going to have to make quick decisions.”

Oklahoma's defense faces its first real challenge in the 2024 season against Tennessee on Saturday. Brent Venables built one of the strongest defenses at Clemson and has largely improved the Sooners on the side of the ball. Nonetheless, they get SEC-tested on Saturday.
