Nick Saban was at the Bryant-Denny Stadium before his former side, Alabama Crimson Tide, under coach Kalen DeBoer thrashed the South Florida Bulls 42-16. He was there for the official unveiling of the 'Saban Field at the Bryant-Denny,' named after him to honor his Bama legacy.
Saban made the Walk of Champions journey alongside his wife, Miss Terry, and his grandson, James, who is the son of his daughter, Kristen Saban. A plaque bearing his name was unveiled to commemorate the occasion.
After the ceremony, Kristen shared the rousing reaction that her father's speech got from an appreciative Bama crowd inside the Bryant-Denny in an Instagram reel.
She captioned the reel:
"🏟️❤️."
During the ceremony, Saban gave an emotional speech to the fans while accepting the honor of having the field named after himself. He credited his players and coaches for his success with the Crimson Tide.
"This is a great honor to have the field named after the legacy that we've been able to create here," Saban said. "But I want this legacy to represent every player who played, who worked hard, every coach who helped those players develop, our administration who set a foundation where we had a chance to be successful."
Nick Saban honored by ESPN's College GameDay
Nick Saban was not only celebrated in Tuscaloosa. On his new gig as an analyst for ESPN's "College GameDay," the crew paid tribute to his glittering career on the show.
The retired Alabama coach showed his standard humility when he was lavished with all the praise from co-panelists and his former players and colleagues. He chose to deflect all the praise to them.
“I hope this is reflective of the legacy of all the players, all the coaches that coached, the fans, the supporters that we had to make this a unique and successful program for a long time," Nick Saban said. "Lots of great players. Lots of great players. I’m proud of the fact we have 61 players in the NFL.”
The show aired clips of the coach's former players and colleagues congratulating him for a stellar career. Some of those who sent tribute clips include New England Patriots coach Dont'a Hightower and former Alabama standouts Derrick Henry and Mark Ingram.
The football world is giving Nick Saban his flowers in real time after he retired less than ten months ago, showing his standing in the game.
