Nick Saban and his wife, Terry, were at the Bryant-Denny Stadium on Wednesday for the annual Nick’s Kids Foundation Luncheon. The event was a lively gathering, with former Alabama players joining in to sign autographs for fans.
Former Bama coach Saban took the time to greet every former player, including Malachi Moore, Tyler Booker and Jaeden Roberts. Here's the video:
A highlight of the luncheon was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to John and Barbara Plott, recognizing their unwavering support for the foundation.
Seven-time national champion Saban and former Alabama stars happily posed for photos, signed autographs, and shared smiles with the kids.
Additionally, Cathy Wood and Dr. Johnny received a generous $100,000 donation to aid Freedom Farm, an effort supported by the foundation. The luncheon also featured a special performance by a group of young talents from the Tuscaloosa Children’s Theater, adding a joyful touch to the occasion.
In 2022, Nick and Terry Saban hosted the luncheon in the North Zone of Bryant-Denny Stadium. Saban often refers to the event as one of his favorite days of the year, where players like Will Anderson and Henry To'oTo'o joined in the festivities.
Terry's lighthearted stories about Nick Saban's retirement
At the Nick’s Kids luncheon, Terry shared some amusing stories about Nick Saban's retirement. After his retirement in January, people ask the coach,
"How’s retirement?"
His wife Terry gave a peek into their new life since Nick Saban stepped away from coaching. She recounted a trip to McDonald's where Saban, surprised they accepted credit cards, asked:
"They take credit cards at McDonald's?"
Miss Terry also mentioned a few changes at home. Nick now knows where most of the light switches are and has improved his texting speed from one word per minute to one and a half. He’s even getting better at dealing with red lights without asking:
“How long is this going to last?”
Moreover, after a round of golf, Nick Saban learned that staying for cards is part of the fun. "He’s a quick learner," Terry said.
