The rivalry between the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies is well-known in college football. It looks like a conference realignment hasn't done anything to change that for the Ducks mascot. A video has gone viral on social media showing the Oregon Football mascot's fueling rivalry with the Huskies during the Big 10 induction.
Puddles saw a cake that had the logos of both the ducks and the huskies. The video showed Puddles taking a knife to cut out the Washington logo before thrusting the knife in where it once was. The mascot walked away amid laughter from the onlookers.
Known as the ‘Border War,’ the rivalry dates back to 1900, when both teams first clashed on the football field. Since then, the two have met 116 times, mostly as members of the Pac-12. While the Ducks have won 48 encounters, Washington has come out on top 63 times.
They met twice last season, once in the regular season and once for the Pac-12 Championship game. The Huskies won both games in their last year of being members of the Pac-12.
The Ducks will meet the Huskies for the first time as Big 10 rivals on November 30. Dan Lanning’s side would like to end their three-game losing streak.
Oregon football means a lot to head coach Dan Lanning
Dan Lanning was considered the front-runner for the Alabama job when Nick Saban decided to hang up his boots. But the Oregon head coach decided to remain in Eugene.
On a podcast, Lanning revealed what made him stay and his feelings about the program.
"I think it's more about what exists here," Lanning said on the Joel Klatt Show. "And for me, you know, this is the first time in my career, I feel like I'm somewhere where I could be for a really, really long time for my family, and that's probably number one right with my kids, who lived in eight states.
"I also can never take for granted that Oregon took a chance on me, and that means a lot to me.”
Coming from the Pac-12 to the Big 10 is a big transition for both the Ducks and the Huskies. It remains to be seen how they cope with the change.
