Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are undefeated at 8-0 and ranked first in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll. Apart from on-field success, the 38-year-old coach also enjoys quality family time with his wife, Sauphia Lanning, and kids, Caden, Kniles, and Titan.
The festive season has taken over the Lanning family as the five of them engaged in a pumpkin carving contest. The Oregon HC also posted a video on Instagram featuring all five pumpkins, asking his 73K followers about the winner. The post was captioned:
"Who wins? Left to right 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest for the Lannings."
The No.1 Oregon Ducks (8-0, 5-0) have been unstoppable in the 2024 college football season. Lanning and Co. will be on the road for their Big 10 matchup in week 10 against the Michigan Wolverines (5-2, 3-2) on Saturday.
Dan Lanning and wife Sauphia Lanning pay tribute to cancer patients
The Ducks’ Week 6 clash with Michigan State Spartans was more than just a game; it was a tribute to cancer survivors led by coach Lanning and his wife, Sauphia, herself a cancer survivor. The Ducks sported a special "Heroes" uniform in bright yellow. It was designed with personal touches by Sauphia, who battled osteosarcoma in 2017.
This tribute uniform had symbolic elements close to the Lanning family. Sauphia hand-sketched a yellow ribbon, giving a nod to her fight against bone cancer. She even included the molecular structure of the chemotherapy drug she endured, nicknamed the "red devil." Another touching detail was an ice cream cone on the uniform.
Ahead of the game, the Oregon Ducks posted an Instagram video honoring those affected by cancer, showing Coach Lanning, Sauphia, and several cancer survivors alongside the Ducks’ players.
Oregon’s Football Equipment Administrator, Kenny Farr, was also moved by the impact of these special games, saying, "It’s a bigger cause than just football. " For the Lannings, it’s a cause that couldn’t be closer to home.
In addition to symbolizing personal resilience, the “Heroes” jerseys became a powerful statement of solidarity.
