The No. 2-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) defeated the Florida Gators (4-4, 2-3) on Saturday. It was an expected result with one of the best teams in the nation defeating a team that has struggled with consistency. However, one of the biggest stories had nothing to do with the game.

A video has gone viral where two police officers punched fans. One of the cops knelt while repeatedly throwing punches as the fan tried to cover his face. The other had an older fan bent over and punched him in the back of the head multiple times.

A nearby fan can be heard shouting:

"Why are you punching him?"

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has released a statement.

"The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s Professional Standards Division is aware of the videos circulating from the Georgia-Florida football game. Administrative reviews of the incidents are being opened. As such, the agency will not comment until all facts are known and the reviews have been completed."

No official timeline for the investigation has been announced.

A different video has also gone viral where another fan was tased.

John Phillips, a civil rights attorney, commented on the incident.

"The suspect had his hands wrapped around [the police officer’s] waist and there’s a gun in 100% of encounters that law enforcement has," Phillips said. " ... one of the things that’s really hammered in training is firearm protection.
“When somebody’s got their hands around your waist, [and] they’re they’re close to where the firearm is and [with] a large crowd like that, things can go from bad to worse.”

How did this incident impact the Florida vs. Georgia game?

It is unclear when the incident exactly occurred during the game; however, there were no stoppages due to it, and the game played out as normal.

Although the Georgia Bulldogs won the game, the Florida Gators put up a strong fight in the first half. Georgia took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Florida bounced back by scoring 13 points in the second quarter to take a 13-6 lead at halftime.

However, Georgia scored 14 points in each of the final two quarters and Florida was only able to put up seven points in the entire second half, eventually losing 34-20.
