Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are preparing for their first season as members of the SEC. But amid the offseason preparations, the program took to social media to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Independence Day.
In a recent post they shared on Instagram, the Texas Longhorns put up a patriotic video edit to celebrate the 4th of July. The video shared snippets of several moments of the program's season games where they pay their respects to the American flag. The latter half of the video contained a breathtaking edit of fireworks at the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Longhorns won their first Big 12 title under the leadership of Steve Sarkisian last season. So far in his three-season stint in Austin, he has put up a 25-14 overall record with the program. Despite making it to the 2023 college football playoffs, they succumbed at the hands of the Washington Huskies in the semifinals.
The Longhorns will now have a difficult challenge ahead of them. As a part of arguably the most challenging conference in college football, they will be competing with top teams like Alabama and Georgia.
Steve Sarkisian is excited about Texas' debut SEC campaign
The city of Texas recently had an SEC celebration day to officially welcome the Longhorns to their new conference. Steve Sarkisian opened up about how he was excited about their new journey in college football. He stated that the support from the fanbase has been 'incredible' and that they will have a new perspective and new things to be excited about after their SEC debut.
"I just think it speaks volume to the Longhorns nation. The support we have from everybody is really incredible and it's not just that they're here, it's the energy that they're providing too. That's why we love them while we're on the road and when we're at home to know that we have the Longhorns nation behind us."
"You know I really don't get to enjoy People Boulevard during a gameday weekend, so this is pretty neat to see the energy just the energy and the excitement that's going on right now. The fanfare in the SEC is something that our fans are gonna enjoy," Sarkisian said.
While the competition is tough, the window of opportunity is also open for the Texas Longhorns. If they could be a playoff contender during the four-team era, then securing a berth in the 12-team playoff format should be the goal for Sarkisian and his team in their SEC debut.
