This weekend, the Tennessee Volunteers faced the Oklahoma Sooners for an SEC blockbuster. This game was won by Tennessee (25-15), which happened to be an emotional affair for many people, including Volunteers coach Josh Heupel.

After the game, Heupel was seen having a heartwarming moment with his father, which only capped off what was an incredibly emotional day for the Heupel family.

Josh Heupel went to the University of Oklahoma and played quarterback for the Sooners between the years 1999 and 2000.

His 2000 season will be remembered forever by Sooners fans. Heupel led the team to an undefeated season, which ended with them defeating the Florida Gators to win the national championship.

This was the last time that they have won the national championship, but they have been close to doing it again a number of times since.

After he retired from playing and entered coaching, Heupel was hired as a positions coach by the Sooners, which only furthered his connection to the team. He stayed with the team for nearly 10 seasons and would them move to Utah State to continue coaching career elsewhere.

Now, as the Tennessee Volunteers coach, this game served as a return to the program that nurtured him for all those years. It is no wonder why Josh Heupel and his family found this game to be an emotional affair.

Josh Heupel responds to the game and the occasion

Heupel did have some comments on his return to Norman, Oklahoma and how special it turned out to be. However, he tried to ignore the reunion and focused on his Tennessee Volunteers that won the game.

Heupel said in the press conference after the game:

"This game was never about me coming back here, not for this football team. I say all that, but they also understood that this one was a little bit different for me personally, too. That's not what it was about, but I do appreciate their recognition."

On the field, Tennessee was able to dominate the Sooners. Despite a late comeback from Oklahoma, it was not enough as Heupel's team recorded a 25-15 victory, continuing their strong start to the season so far.
