It would not be a Texas Longhorns game without an appearance from Matthew McConaughey. The famous actor and Longhorns superfan is a usual sight at many Texas games, and this week's encounter with the Kentucky Wildcats was no exception.
McConaughey was seen talking with college football analyst Paul Finebaum before the game. The video doesn't give any information on what they spoke about.
However, the pair can be seen wearing cowboy hats. This is a common sight for McConaughey but does appear to be a new look for Finebaum.
Texas (the state) has been a key part of the development of McConaughey as an actor. He spoke about this during his appearance on former tennis player Nick Kyrgios' podcast:
“I moved down to the ranch in Texas. I went down there to stop doing what I was doing and wait for what I wanted to do."
Before moving closer to his beloved Longhorns, McConaughey lived in Hollywood and was constantly getting typecast in specific roles.
He did not like that and moved back to the Lone Star state. He decided he would not accept an acting role if he wasn't happy with it.
This paid off for McConaughey, now one of Hollywood's biggest stars.
Living in the Austin area means he can spend time in the place he loves and make short trips to watch the Longhorns, as he has been doing for many years.
Matthew McConaughey on what he does differently now that Steve Sarkisian is in charge
However, McConaughey has recently stopped doing something he used to do for the Longhorns. McConaughey used to be a vocal part of the fandom and used to talk to the players from the sidelines.
However, he shared on the "Eli Manning Show" last week that he doesn't do that anymore.
"Sark, he wants to be the singular voice for that team … There’s nothing against me saying anything to the team, but I like that he’s not looking for another outside voice," McConaughey said.
Under coach Steve Sarkisian, the Longhorns have become one of the best teams in the country.
This season, the Longhorns are in the running for the SEC Championship Game in their first season in the conference and are a contender for the national championship.
McConaughey knows he needs to sit back and watch the games. Success will follow.
