Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers was in imperious form at the Big House, leading his team to a dominant 31-12 win against coach Sherrone Moore's Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. He threw for 246 yards resulting in three touchdowns.
Texas superfan and Longhorns' Minister of Culture, Matthew McConaughey was on hand to hype the game with an epic pre-game standoff against Michigan legend Charles Woodson.
At halftime with the Longhorns leading 24-3, McConaughey was hugely complimentary of Quinn Ewers on the set of FOX's "Big Noon Kickoff."
“There’s a lot to be happy about in this first half, on both sides of the ball,” McConaughey said. “I think we can easily say No. 3 (Quinn Ewers) is pretty talented, isn’t he?”
After the game, the famous actor embraced Ewers and the Longhorns' QB2 Arch Manning. Here's the video of their interaction:
Matthew McConaughey helped bring the hype for the showdown between Texas and Michigan, sending a warning message to the Wolverines' honorary captain Derek Jeter on the set of FOX's "Big Noon Kickoff."
"Don't know if I'm gonna make it there to be live on your show but I'm hopping on a train, then I'm hopping on a boat then I'm rowing in a canoe then I'm jogging the last eighteen miles, and I'll be there by game time. Jeter, I hope it's gonna be a long day for you Big Blue, coming in hot, hook 'em," McConaughey said.
Quinn Ewers leads Texas to season-defining win
Quinn Ewers stepped up in a big way for the Texas Longhorns in their defining win against the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. It was a statement, akin to the one against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa last year.
The Wolverines had won 16 straight home games at the Big House before coach Steve Sarkisian's mean machine rolled into town and pulverized them. No. 10 Michigan was in danger of a serious blowout, trailing 24-3 at halftime.
After the game, the Texas quarterback was caught on FOX celebrating the season-defining win with a message to Texas fans.
“Hey, you hear it? You hear it, baby. We came out, we played a clean game, we did what we needed to do. We did it for you guys. Hook'em Horns, baby,” Ewers said.
The Texas Longhorns reached the semifinal of the college football playoff last season, with Quinn Ewers under center. Coach Steve Sarkisian's team looks primed for another run this season with the experienced quarterback calling the shots again.
