Donald Trump became the taking point in the Week 9 Big 12 game between Texas Tech and TCU despite him not being in attendance. The Texas Tech football team employed a clever trick play to secure its first touchdown in the hotly contested matchup. However, it was the celebration afterward that got a lot of people talking.
Down 14-3 early in the second quarter of the encounter, the Red Raiders encountered a 4th-and-goal situation from the TCU 4-yard line. Instead of attempting a field goal, Texas Tech handed the ball off to kicker Reese Burkhardt, who sprinted in for the touchdown.
To celebrate the classic touchdown, Burkhardt lifted his jersey and revealed an undershirt with a handwritten message. The message read “Trump 24! MAGA,” bringing a touch of politics into the game. While Texas Tech lost the game, the moment caught a lot of attention.
Donald Trump might attend Penn State vs. Ohio State game
Donald Trump might be attending his second top-5 game in college football within a week. The former president was in Tuscaloosa in Week 5 for Georgia’s game against Alabama and he could be heading to College Park in Week 10 for another top game.
Penn State University is already making preparations for the Republican presidential candidate's anticipated attendance at the Week 10 game against Ohio State at Beaver Stadium on Nov. 2, just three days before the presidential election.
In a statement released Thursday, the university confirmed that a "private citizen" has invited the Republican presidential nominee to the game, which is considered the biggest matchup of Penn State's 2024 college football regular season.
"The University has been notified that a private citizen has invited former President Donald Trump to attend the Ohio State-Penn State football game as a guest in their suite," a statement from Penn State reads.
"The U.S. Secret Service is working with University Police and Public Safety and other state and local law enforcement on safety and security measures that are put into place around the presence of presidential candidates. With that in mind, we encourage fans, anyone visiting campus, and all those attending the game to arrive early to the game or to their intended destinations."
Should Trump attend the game as anticipated, it would signify his second straight Saturday visiting Pennsylvania State University. He held a rally at the Bryce Jordan Center, the home to the Nittany Lions men’s and women’s basketball team, on Oct. 26.
