WIU Football Team Gets A Reason To Celebrate
WIU Football Team Gets A Reason To Celebrate

Western Illinois University's football team had a reason to celebrate on Tuesday, because they were among the four teams added to the roster of teams available in EA's College Football 25 in its most recent update.

The team's Twitter/X account uploaded a video of the team celebrating in the locker room as they logged on to the game to find themselves as playable characters. As the camera pans around the room, we can see every player on the team shouting and pointing at the screen in excitement.

The Leathernecks haven't had much success in their time on the field this season. The team has gone an astounding 0-11 to start their year and has not held a lead in any of their games since September 16, 2023.

While WIU has never been a football powerhouse, their team peaked in 2002, when they were champions of their conference. The hiring of coach Myers Hendrickson in 2022 was followed by two disastrous seasons. The team failed to leave a mark on the field and finished both seasons winless.

Since the coaching job was given to Joe Davis in December 2023, however, the team has seen little improvement in their win-loss column. The development of players like Elijah Aragon and Keion Battle has been key for the team since their arrival, and it is expected to be the catalyst for their success going forward.

Fan Reactions to CFB 25's Most Recent Update

A fan of the team and a CFB 25 creator left a reply to WIU's tweet asking for credit for his work on adding the team to the game, and it included pictures and videos of gameplay with the newly added Leatherneck team.

CFB 25's subreddit and its forums weren't too gushy about the new updates. In fact, the most common things said on these forums hasn't changed since the game's release or through any recent updates. The fans of the game continue to complain about the game's engine, EA's Frostbite.

Could cosmetic and roster changes be EA's game plan for dealing with the noise? And could the newly added teams shake up season simulations in the game in a significant way? It all remains to be seen. For now, we celebrate with the Leathernecks.
