The Colorado Buffaloes seemed set for a victory against Kansas on Saturday. However, things took a shocking turn. The Kansas Jayhawks revealed holes in Colorado’s game and prevented the Buffaloes from finding their rhythm. They were more physical and their offense proved too much for the Buffs to handle. The game resulted in a 37-21 loss for Colorado, putting an end to their win streak and denting their Big 12 championship hopes.

Buffaloes' coach, Deion Sanders, was clearly disappointed at the result and he placed the blame on himself and his team, refusing to make excuses. In a post-game interview, he said:

“We started smelling ourselves a little bit. That’s what I just told our team. We got intoxicated with the success. We got intoxicated with the multitude of articles and the assumption that we’re this and the assumption that we’re that. And we did not play CU football. Therefore, we got our butts kicked.”

For now, Colorado seems out of the Big 12 conversation. Prior to the Kansas game, all they needed was a win against the Jayhawks and Oklahoma. Now, things are much more tricky. They’ll need to win and they’ll also need BYU, Arizona State and Iowa State to lose next week.

As far as we know, Coach Sanders will be working on his team’s mentality and drive. He said:

“They (Kansas) just wanted it more. We’re smelling ourselves. They wanted it more. I can’t let a team that I coach start feeling themselves. Can’t do that.”

We can expect a more focused and hungry Colorado as we look forward to their next game.

Kansas dents Colorado Buffaloes Big 12 title hopes but they still have a shot

On Saturday, Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes hit an unexpected roadblock on their path to the Big 12 Conference championship, after their unexpected loss to the Kansas Jayhawks. They are now tied for first place with Iowa State, BYU and Arizona State. For now, there seem to be just two paths left for them to get in.

The Buffs need to defeat Oklahoma in their Friday game and they need at least two other first-place teams to lose on Saturday. This is a more uncertain path that requires a Buffs victory, along with a good amount of luck. Also, if BYU loses to Houston and West Virginia loses to Texas Tech, this would help their case under league tiebreaker rules, even in the case that they end up in a three-way tie.

These are the only options left for the Colorado Buffaloes. If they are able to do their part by beating Oklahoma, all that’s left is to cross their fingers and wait.
