A promise was made. According to Florida State's edge rusher, Joshua Farmer, the Seminoles will make the College Football Playoff in 2024. In 2023, the Seminoles missed the playoffs in gut-wrenching fashion after becoming the first undefeated Power Five champion to be left out by the committee since the inception of the format in 2014.

During the ACC media days on Monday, the Florida State player said:

“We’re pretty p***ed off, but as you know everything happened for a reason, so this year we’re trying to get back and do what we can to get where we’re supposed to be. … We’re definitely going to make a run, and we’re definitely going to be in that 12-team (playoff). … We p***ed off … We know what we deserve, and we’re going to try and get that.”

The stated reason for the Seminoles missing out in 2023 was the season-ending injury to quarterback Jordan Travis toward the tail end of the regular season. In the consideration of the playoff committee, the Seminoles were no longer the same dominating team they were for much of the season.

The bar is set lower this year, as with the expansion of the playoffs to a 12-team format, there will much more chances to get in.

Florida State's Mike Norvell replies to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey

During the ACC media days, FSU coach Mike Norvell answered comments made by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.

Last week, Sankey took a shot at Florida State:

"Georgia was one of the best four teams (in the nation) and didn't get in (the Playoff). But you didn't see us jumping up and down and complaining and hanging national championship banners."

On Monday, the Florida State coach replied:

"I don't disagree that Georgia was one of the top four teams if you're judging off talent and ability, but they also earned their loss. That was part of the result of what happened on the field. When you look at our team and what it was, we controlled the things we could control.
"We unfortunately had an injury, but we had a team that responded to it. Everybody can have an opinion of what happened. I don't disagree they were one of the four best teams, but what happened on the field kept them out of the Playoff."

Georgia was the first top team to be dropped out of the top five in the final CFP committee rankings. Georgia, the two-time defending national champion, had been undefeated and at the top of every poll throughout the entire regular season but fell to Alabama in the SEC championship game.
