Quarterback Cam Ward and the No. 13-ranked Miami Hurricanes narrowly missed out on an appearance in the college football playoff after looking poised to make it for most of the season. They led the ACC for most of the year, starting with nine straight wins.

However, after losing two of its last three games of the season to Georgia Tech and No. 21-ranked Syracuse, the Hurricanes fell out of the playoff picture. They fell to third in the ACC, missing an opportunity to compete in the championship game. Additionally, they fell far enough in the rankings that they were not selected as one of the seven highest-ranked non-champions for a playoff berth.

As a result, Cam Ward and the Miami Hurricanes will compete in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against the No. 18-ranked Iowa State Cyclones on December 28.

Ward appeared on SportsCenter on Wednesday and was asked about his team missing the playoffs and the upcoming bowl game (starts at 2:53).

"I mean, it's crazy. You got the got the best quarterback in the country. You got the number one offense in the country, top five offense of all time in college. So, you know, we ain't been stopped all year. So we have a top 25 defense."
"I mean, at the end of the day, I have no control over that. My teammates have no control over that. You know, they had to do what they had to do, but we got the challenge on us of playing in a good bowl game, going against a good team, Iowa State, you know, we're going to try to end the season off with a win."

Cam Ward was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy

While Cam Ward and the Miami Hurricanes prepare for their matchup in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State, Cam Ward was recognized for his tremendous season with a nomination for the Heisman Trophy. He was named a finalist alongside Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

In his first season with the Hurricanes, Ward had a tremendous year, completing 293 of 435 passing attempts for 4123 yards and 36 TDs. He was one of the most effective quarterbacks in the country and could be the first quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL draft. However, he is unlikely to win the Heisman Trophy as Travis Hunter is heavily favored to win.
