Deion Sanders arrived in Colorado with a lot of hype and expectations. The Pro Football Hall of Famer had a successful tenure at Jackson State before transitioning to the Football Bowl Subdivision. However, his first year in Boulder didn't go as planned, ending with a 4-8 record.
There's been a lot of rumors about Sanders not staying long in Boulder before moving on. This was further ignited by Shelomi Sanders entering the transfer portal. Nonetheless, Coach Prime reinstated his commitment to building a legacy at Colorado in an appearance on a recent installment of the “DNVR Buffs” podcast.
“Where I come from, historically kids follow their parents. When do parents start following their kids? That doesn't work in my book, that doesn't work where I'm from. I'm the leader of the family. I've been dictating where my kids go, not them dictating where I go.
“I'm happy, I'm cool and I'm sound in Boulder. I love it 100%. We're going to build a monument. You know those mountains that overlook the stadium, I want my head on one.”
Deion Sanders knows the players loyal to Colorado
Colorado has witnessed significant departures via the transfer portal this offseason. A couple of players have decided to move on and continue their careers elsewhere.
There are rumors in the air that a couple of other players could be on their way out of the program. Nonetheless, Deion Sanders said on the podcast that there are players loyal to the program.
“I love my young men and some of them are really truly loyal and faithful to us and to the program, especially for what we've done and accomplished together. So I know who's who, I know who's on the fence.”
While Colorado could see more of its players jump the ship, the Buffaloes also remain active on the transfer portal. The program will be looking to add a couple of players if they are the right fit.
Can Deion Sanders turn things around in 2024?
Deion Sanders’ first season in charge at Colorado was a disappointing one. The Buffaloes started the 2023 college football season on a brilliant note, winning the first three games. However, they came out victorious in just one of their last nine games of the season.
Nonetheless, the 2024 college football season is an opportunity for Sanders to set things right. He's done a lot in this offseason to ensure the right players are added to the roster. Without a doubt, the Buffaloes have the potential to get it right in the upcoming season.
