Colorado State players Tory Horton and Brayden Fowler-Nicolsi did not hold back when asked about their upcoming matchup against in-state rivals Colorado. In an interview posted by CBS Colorado's Romi Bean on Wednesday night, the Rams players had a lot to say about the Buffaloes, their close matchup last year and how they want to get revenge.
The two teams will compete in Fort Collins on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Colorado is 1-1 and coming off a 28-10 loss to Nebraska last week. Colorado State is also 1-1 but is coming off a 38-17 win over Northern Colorado.
In the interview, Rams players Tory Horton and Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi were asked about their game against Colorado. They did not mince words, as wide receiver Tory Horton said:
"They came out with that attitude that they were on the top of the world. We should've murdered them guys... this ain't no Cinderella story. We're coming for revenge."
Horton was referring to the close matchup between the two teams last year where Colorado narrowly won 43-35 in double overtime despite being huge favorites going into the game. Fowler-Nicolosi went on to add:
"It goes to show that the hype, the media train, it only takes you so far. At the end of the day, you have to line up 11 guys against our 11 guys and we'll see who wants it more, and we'll see how far Instagram followers gets them."
Horton then took a shot at the hype Colorado has gotten because of its coach Deion Sanders.
"We're all here to play football, so at the end of the day, the millions of followers and fans they produced and celebrities that jumped on their side because of who Deion Sanders is, at the end of the day, Deion Sanders ain't playing," Horton said.
Who is the favorite in the Colorado State vs. Colorado matchup?
It is clear that there is a lot of tension coming into this in-state rivalry game. The Rocky Mountain Showdown is always an exciting contest, but with the tension added by the players, it should be even more tense.
Colorado is a -275 favorite heading into the game, and Colorado State is a +225 underdog. While that gives a solid edge to Colorado, the Buffaloes were even bigger favorites in 2023, and that contest went into double overtime. So, fans should expect a close matchup again this year, and this time Colorado State might even be able to pull off an upset.
