Coach Prime’s tenure at Colorado started on a brilliant note. The Buffaloes opened the 2023 college football season with a win against national championship finalist TCU in Fort Worth and went on to claim another big victory against Nebraska the following week in Boulder.

The game against the Cornhuskers was probably the Buffaloes’ best performance of the 2023 season. Colorado dominated its rival in many aspects to secure a 36-14 win.

Colorado fans rushed onto the field after the game to celebrate Deion Sanders' first home win. Coach Prime's ex-wife, Pilar Sanders, and daughter, Shelomi, were among the fans who came onto the field.

Pilar shared her moment on the field on Instagram:

“...And Another Won! We win AGAIN AND THE FANS RUSH THE FIELD!!!! Go @cubuffsfootball,” Pilar Sander wrote.

How Coach Prime reacted to the win over Nebraska

Colorado's win against Nebraska in Week 2 of the 2023 college football season was a big one for the team. The program had finished 1-11 the previous season but was 2-0 following the win against the Cornhuskers.

Coach Prime was elated as his plan in Boulder began to take shape.

"They played their butts off," said Sanders. "It was just a couple of personnel things we need to fix, we're still going to go take a look. Just giving up that big play at the end of the game, we hate stuff like that, coaches do. But overall, I'm so proud of our kids, I'm so proud of our school, I'm so proud of our alumni..."

Colorado couldn't repeat the win against Nebraska in the 2024 college football season. The Buffaloes traveled to Lincoln and were defeated 28-10 by the Cornhuskers, led by true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola.

"Tough game for us,” Sanders said. “Came out on the short end of the stick, obviously. Starting out, we felt good about matchups and felt good about the competition. We felt good about what we brought to the table today.

Coach Prime was, however, pleased with the way his team played in the second half. After ending the first half 28-0 behind, Colorado limited Nebraska to no score in the second half.

"I’m just excited," Sanders said after the game. "I mean, you gotta understand when you’re in a situation like this, you gotta find something to hold onto that you can encourage your team. And I’m truly excited about the second half of football that we played."

While Coach Prime’s team only won two more games after the Nebraska win in 2023, it has already recorded six victories since the loss to the Cornhuskers earlier this season.
