The Iowa State Cyclones failed to win the Big 12 as they lost 45-19 to Arizona State. After losing out in the championship game, Iowa's chances of making the college football playoff ended.
However, Iowa State still finished the year with a record of 10-3 and will be in a bowl game. After the playoffs were announced, the bowl games were revealed, including Iowa State's.
What Bowl game does Iowa State play in?
The Iowa State Cyclones will be playing the Miami Hurricanes in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Iowa State and Miami both accepted their invitations to the game.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 28th at 3:30 p.m. EST and will take place at Camping World Stadium.
Following the announcement, Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says he's excited for his team to regroup and end the year on a high note.
“I think that’s what’s made Iowa State football really special is our ability to have great resiliency,” Cyclones coach Matt Campbell said, via AP. “And I know our kids are super-excited about the opportunity to finish off. Obviously, (Saturday) was disappointing. But this group and this football team has the opportunity to just continue to fight.”
Iowa State and Miami both fell just short of making the college football playoff.
The Cyclones are a one-point favorite to defeat Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl but the line could significantly shift due to which players opt out of the game.
Iowa State preparing for the Bowl Game like a playoff game
The Iowa State Cyclones are excited to play a top-15 ranked team in a bowl game in the Miami Hurricanes.
"We're going to prepare for that game like it's the playoffs," Myles Purchase, a senior cornerback said, via 247Sports. "I'm going to give my best, and I know the seniors are going to give our best in that game."
Campbell, meanwhile, says playing and beating a team like Miami gives the Cyclones a chance to end their season on a high note.
"I think any time there's a chance to put an exclamation point on some of those things, it's powerful," Campbell added.
Currently, no major player has opted out of Iowa State's Bowl Game.
