Will Johnson and the Michigan Wolverines played against the USC Trojans on Saturday in Week 4 of the college football season. Sherrone Moore's squad was able to pull off a late win with the help of their defense and rushing attack as the keys to the team's 27-24 victory.
Will Johnson, the cornerback and the highest-rated player in EA Sports' CFB game, suffered an injury and was not on the field for USC's final two drives of the game. Even though he was not available, his girlfriend, Kay, shared an encouraging story about the day.
"What a day," she wrote in one of the stories.
"My new favorite college football picture," she wrote in another story.
Moore gave an update about Johnson's injury after the team. He said:
“(Johnson) came back and he could have went back in, but we held him (out of the game),” Moore said, as per Maize N Brew. “So he’s in a good place — I thought those other guys did an outstanding job.”
Though Will Johnson suffered an injury, he was one of the important players on the team and even had a pick-six against the Trojans.
Will Johnson set a university record
Johnson has been a key player for the Michigan Wolverines at the start of the college football season. When he played against the Trojans, he set a new program record with his third-career interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter of the game.
Will Johnson intercepted a pass from QB Miller Moss and ran 42 yards for the score, extending Michigan's lead to 20-10 late in the third quarter. The Michigan player was tied with several other players for the record.
When he played against Fresno State in Week 1, he had an 86-yard interception return for a touchdown. He now has a total of nine career interceptions and counting. Last season, Johnson recorded a career-high four interceptions after picking off three passes as a freshman.
Predicted as a first-round prospect in the 2025 NFL draft, Johnson had anchored a Michigan defense that was among the best in the country en route to a national title last season.
