Boubacar Traore is a key part of Notre Dame's defense this season. The sophomore entered the Fighting Irish's starting lineup after replacing an injured Jordan Botelho.

However, Traore is now sidelined alongside Botelho after sustaining an injury during Notre Dame's battle with Louisville on Saturday.

What happened to Boubacar Traore?

Traore was hurt after making a big play in the first quarter against the Cardinals.

After the injury, Irish Sports Daily writer Greg Flamming gave information on the defensive lineman's condition.

"Boubacar Traore is back on the sidelines with head in hands and getting consoled. Doesn't look good."

The broadcast team then announced Traore suffered a left leg injury and would miss the remainder of the contest.

The impact Boubacar Traore had on Fighting Irish defense

The loss of Traore has expanded the injury crisis affecting Notre Dame's defensive line. He began this season behind Jordan Botelho. However, when Botelho was injured, Traore shined.

The four-star recruit added 11 tackles this season.

He also tallied three sacks, a forced fumble and an interception for the Fighting Irish, making him one of the strongest players for his unit.

With Traore down, Marcus Freeman's program must make another roster shift. Inconsistency on the edge due to injuries could prevent Notre Dame from making the College Football Playoffs.
