Kent State backup quarterback JD Sherrod is out of the game against Penn State. This isn't Kent State's day, as having suffered the loss of their starting quarterback Devin Kargman earlier in the game, Sherrod was also forced to leave the field against the Nittany Lions.

Late in the second quarter, with only 18 yards to his name, JD Sherrod scrambled forward in a play and fell. He didn't immediately stand up again and was seen grabbing his left ankle in pain. Their third-string quarterback took to the field in his place as he was retired to the medical tent.

Earlier in the game, starting quarterback Devin Kargman also suffered an injury while running. Kargman was tackled by Penn State's Dani Dennis-Sutton, and the quarterback fumbled the ball.

He was unable to stand and had to be carted off the field. Third-string Tommy Ulatowski has taken the field in place of JD Sherrod for Kent State.

How is Kent State doing against Penn State?

The Golden Flashes are surely wishing they were able to leave the field right about now. Penn State is leading the game 35-0 at the time of writing, early in the third quarter. The Nittany Lions have scored 7, 21 and 7 points in each quarter so far and Drew Allar and company don't look like they are going to stop.

Allar already has 309 yards, with three touchdown passes. Omari Evans has been his best weapon in offense, with 101 yards and a touchdown reception. Kent State's numbers, in turn, are pitiful, with the Golden Flashes only having 42 total yards in 13 minutes of possession.

How has Kent State done so far this season?

This has been a season to forget for Kent State so far, having lost their three previous games. Week 3's 71-0 loss to Tennessee was as embarrassing as this game against Penn State is looking to be. The Golden Flashes seem to be about to earn their second shutout of the season.

In Week 1 and 2, they lost to Pitt and Saint Francis University, respectively.
