What happened to Qua Russaw? Exploring latest injury update on Alabama LB

Alabama suffered a key blow to the defense, with an injury to freshman starting linebacker Qua Russaw. The Crimson Tide led the Wisconsin Badgers 21-3 when the Russaw left the game, but he is an integral part of their plans and the injury was a big concern.

What happened to Qua Russaw?

Qua Russaw left the game in the second quarter after a teammate rolled up on the linebacker's ankle. Russaw was helped to the locker room and was unable to put any pressure on his left ankle and foot.

Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer gave reporters an injury update on a variety of players on Sept. 16, and said the following of Russaw:

“Qua (Russaw), with the evaluation of him, I think the bye week is huge. I think he probably, later in the week will be able to do some things for us, and we’ll certainly be careful with him. We don’t want to have any setbacks. But I would feel like it’s a positive progression for him already here, just the last couple days."

DeBoer also discussed the progress of Malachi Moore and Richard Young:

“Malachi Moore got kind of hit to the head, blow to the head. He popped up and ran off the field. But I also know that there’s a protocol we kind of go through it. So a lot of positive signs there with him already here in his first couple of days. We just got to go through that progression that needs to be done when it comes to those type of injuries.

“And Richard (Young), you know, I’m not sure on Richard a little bit, I think he’s kind of got to continue to evaluate here and probably have some follow-up here, maybe, towards the end of the week.”

Alabama came out 42-10 winners against Wisconsin, and after a bye week have a stern test in Week 5. The Crimson Tide (No. 4) host the (No. 2) Georgia Bulldogs in a highly-anticipated game on Saturday, Sept. 28 and they will be hoping to have their best players available.
