What happened to Teigan Martin? All we know about USF tight end who was killed in a car crash

Teigan Martin, a University of South Florida football player, died at 20 years old on Monday morning. TMZ reported that he died due to a one-vehicle accident. According to the Carver County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 5 a.m. on Monday in Minnesota on a roadway in Hollywood Township.

The police said that Martin died at the scene of the crash and the black 2013 BMW W5 skidded off into a ditch. They believe that Martin crossed over a lane of traffic and went into the ditch, where the car rolled over before coming to a stop.

The USF football team page issued a tweet with an in-memoriam picture:

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Teigan Martin. We extend our thoughts and prayers to Teigan's family, friends, and all who knew and loved him."

There is an open investigation by the police, and it's not known if alcohol played a role in the accident. However, it was confirmed that speed may have been a factor and that Martin was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

What did Teigan Martin do before joining the South Florida Bulls?

Before joining the USF Bulls ahead of the 2023 season, Teigan Martin began his collegiate career with the Liberty Flames. However, he did not play in his true freshman season in 2022 and transferred to the Bulls in January 2023. Martin did not see any action on the field during the 2023 season either for USF, but he was one of the top tight ends coming out of high school.

Martin played at Mayer Lutheran High School in Minnesota and won the state championship his senior season. He was a starter at tight end and defensive tackle and was a three-star recruit. In addition to football, he also had a Division I offer from Western Illinois to be part of its basketball program, as he averaged more than 20 points per game his junior season and eclipsed 1,000 career points in high school.
