Kent State Golden Flashes quarterback Devin Kargman suffered an injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the game against the 10th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. On the second play of the game, Nittany Lions defender Dani Dennis-Sutton was able to hit Devin Kargman as he was running. Kargman would fumble the football but ultimately stay down on the field and would be stretchered off the field.

As backup quarterback JD Sherrod would prepare to replace him in the game, his Kent State teammates would check on Kargman as he was leaving the field via stretcher.

As of this writing, there has not been an update on his condition but The Athletic's Audrey Snyder mentioned that Devin Kargman's right knee was elevated as he was stretchered off of the field. However, the knee seemingly was okay as it would later be revealed that Kargman suffered a hip injury that required season-ending surgery.

On the Tuesday following the game, coach Kenni Burns spoke to the media and provided an update on Kargman's status.

"Dev will be out for the season. He had a hip injuy and he got it fixed and is ready to start the rehabilitation process. He had surgery yesterday at Hershey (Medical Center). I was there with him and his family, doing well in great spirits. We're hopeful to get him back to Kent shortly." h/t Hustle Belt

Who will replace Devin Kargman as Kent State's starting quarterback?

The Kent State Golden Flashes did not have much luck with the quarterback position following Devin Kargman's injury. Backup quarterback JD Sherrod would enter the game in relief but suffered a torn Achilles during the second quarter of the game.

Now with the injuries piled up for the Golden Flashes, that leaves junior Tommy Ulatowski to fill in as the team's starting quarterback going forward. He has not seen much action before the injury this season but last year held the single-season high in passing yards (284) and passing touchdowns (three) for the team during the 2023 season.

This is going to be a tough remainder of the season for the Kent State offense as they now rely on their third-string quarterback, but stranger things have happened.
